Lectura de sambata dimineata

“All in all, it was a never-to-be-forgotten summer — one of those summers which come seldom into any life, but leave a rich heritage of beautiful memories in their going — one of those summers which, in a fortunate combination of delightful weather, delightful friends and delightful doing, come as near to perfection as anything can come in this world.” ― L.M. Montgomery, Anne’s House of Dreams

A venit vara.

My Wardrobe si voi posta detaliile finale aici, in urmatoarele zile. Come on, hurry up!

Mencyclopedia: Canali – “The night after his election as President of the United States in November 2008, Barack Obama was photographed waving to the crowds in Chicago. As he did so, his jacket fell back and exposed the label of his tailor of choice: yes, he Canali.” In The Telegraph.

The art of nude manicure – „The proliferation of nude-colored nail polishes can be seen as a rebellion against the wild nail art that, over the past two years, has infiltrated the polish aisle at drugstores and appeared on the hands of models for Chanel, Prabal Gurung and 3.1 Phillip Lim, among others. ” In Wall Street Jurnal.

Shoe battles: going toe to toe in stilettos – “Shoes are an especially fetishized subject in fashion, but it is only since the late 1990s, not coincidentally at the start of the television series ‘Sex and the City,’ that they have become what they are today, with warring retailers, an influx of new players on the battleground each season, and very little price resistance demonstrated by consumers, even when the market has all the characteristics of another fashion bubble.” In NY Times.

Bridal Fashion: the latest trends – „Lace—in myriad forms—bloomed as one of the biggest trends in the recent round of bridal shows from brands such as Carolina Herrera and Marchesa. Here comes a flowery and romantic walk down the aisle.” In Wall Street Journal.

Summer weddings for men – „Regardless of the suit color, a crisp white shirt is essential, both designers say, noting it adds a polished touch to the ensemble. If the wedding is in a casual setting like the beach or someone’s backyard, Mr. Cox says he may sometimes do a white polo shirt with a khaki suit.” In Wall Street Journal.

Super Woman: Natalia Vodianova– „She has never done things the usual way. She became a mother of three and a philanthropic powerhouse, all while conquering the fashion world. Vodianova still has lucrative contracts with Guerlain and French lingerie brand Etam, for which she also designs her own collection. It’s a wave she could ride until she washes up on fashion’s more obscure shores, but instead, Vodianova has always sought to establish herself as someone with interests and ambitions above and beyond the runway.” In Wall Street Journal Magazine.

Dropped stitches – “But do not be fooled by the confident strutting of those hollow-cheeked clothes-horses: although Italian style still draws legions of buyers from the world over, beneath the catwalks the foundations of the country’s flourishing clothing and accessories industries are being undermined.”  In The Economist.

The jumpsuit: a one-piece singularity – „No matter the era, the all-in-one has usually been cast in the role of the one-off, not the go-to. Until now, that is. This summer, the jumpsuit officially graduates from novelty to wardrobe staple, emerging as a must-have for both après-beach lounging and evening cocktailing.” In Wall Street Journal.

At NYU Stern, fashionistas can get an MBA too – “Fashion may be an unconventional career choice for MBAs, but NYU’s Stern School of Business has a novel program for the sartorially inclined. Stern MBAs can apply to participate in the Stern Consulting Corps’ partnership with the Council of Fashion Designers of America, which pairs students with fashion designers for 10 weeks to provide advice on a variety of subjects, including business plans, e-commerce strategies, and cash flow projections.” In Business Week.

The cult of Pomelatto– „Glamorous, yet wearable around the clock, the 45-year-old house’s signature gold and brilliantly colored semiprecious stones telegraph understated luxury. The uncommon mix of quality and ease appeals to the brand’s legion of fans, who often amass pieces by the dozens, passing them down through generations. As fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez once declared, „Pomellato is the blue jeans of high-end jewelry.” In Wall Street Journal Magazine.

Don’t know this face? Just wait – “Just as being cast by Prada can turn a woman overnight from a lovely Scandinavian nobody into what Mr. Brown termed ‘a six-figure girl,’ a Calvin Klein casting vaults a model’s name to the top of the ratings on Web sites like Models.com, which exert considerable influence in markets like South Korea and Japan.” In NY Times.
